Can You Restick LED Lights on the Wall? [A Quick Guide]

LED lights (in particular LED strip lights) have become increasingly popular in recent years, due to both their energy efficiency and long lifespan.

They are also very versatile and can be used in a variety of settings, including as accent lighting in your home.

But as great as LED lights are, you may find that your LED strip lights become loose over time and start to fall off the wall.

This then begs the question, is it possible to restick them back onto the wall?

Let’s take a look.

Can You Restick LED Lights on the Wall?

The short answer is yes, it is possible to re-stick LED lights on the wall, however there are a few things to consider before attempting to do so.

Is the surface of the wall ready?

First, it is important to make sure that the surface you are attaching the LED lights to is clean and dry.

Any dirt, dust, or moisture on the surface can affect the adhesion of the lights. To clean the surface, use a dry cloth or a mild cleaning solution and allow it to fully dry before proceeding.

Is the existing adhesive backing still working?

Next, you will need to remove the LED light from the wall (if it’s not already off) and check the existing adhesive backing.

If the adhesive is dirty or damaged, it may not stick properly. If this is the case, you may need to either fully replace the adhesive backing (this can be done using double-sided tape), or use an additional adhesive in areas to secure the light strip back onto the wall.

It is still working…

If the adhesive backing is still in good condition, you can try simply pressing the LED light back onto the wall.

Be sure to press firmly and hold the light in place for a few seconds to ensure that it sticks properly.

It isn’t still working…

If the LED light still will not stay on the wall, we suggest using an additional adhesive to secure it.

There are a variety of adhesives available that are specifically designed for use with LED lights, like our LED Strip Light Mounting Clips.

Whichever adhesive you choose, make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and allow the adhesive to fully dry before turning on the lights.

Closing Thoughts

In conclusion, it is possible to re-stick LED lights on the wall, but it is important to ensure that the surface is clean and dry and that the adhesive backing is in good condition.

If necessary, you can use an additional adhesive to secure the lights in place. With proper care and installation, your LED lights should stay securely in place for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

How easy is it to relocate LED strips?

It is generally quite easy to relocate LED strips, but it will depend on how you attached them to the wall and the type of LED strip being used.

If you used the adhesive backing that comes with most LED strip lights, you may be able to relocate them without too much trouble depending on how cleanly you can detach them from the wall. Worst case, you may need some additional adhesive in certain areas, but by and large you should be okay.

If you used alternative adhesive such as double-sided tape, relocating your LED strips will be easy – simply removes the tape and re-attach your lights to the new location, applying some additional tape if needed to secure them properly.

Can LED strips be cut?

Yes, LED strips can be cut, but only at the designated cutting points, which are typically marked with a line or a scissor symbol. These cutting points are usually spaced at regular intervals along the length of the LED strip, and indicate where on the LED strip is safe to cut.

It is important to cut only at these cutting points because each LED strip is divided into several circuits, and each cutting point marks the end of one circuit and the beginning of the next.

Therefore, if you cut the strip at a point other than a designated cutting point, the circuit may be damaged and the strip may stop functioning altogether.
